Color Needles

Color Needles - 1984 shows vertical color bands stacked in uneven steps across the sheet.

The painted stripes follow the approach Gene Davis used in many color field paintings, with each band a different width. A fine art print reproduces the painted bands on matte paper so the colors hold their tone without shine.

The hanger on the back fits a nail or screw and the sheet goes up straight. Over a kitchen table the bands read as steady blocks of color, and the narrow stripes near the edge give the surface a quiet rhythm.
