Combustione

Combustione - 1957 shows a torn surface with patches of black and red on a weathered field. The paint seems to have been pressed and peeled in places. Alberto Burri worked with unusual materials in this way.

The surface feels rough and uneven rather than smooth. Fine art prints from the picture keep those rough edges and uneven colour. The paper holds the dark patches without gloss.

You can hang it straight up with a metal hanger fixed to the back. No separate frame is needed. It works above a kitchen counter where morning light catches the torn edges.
