About this work
Composition - 1959 by Alfred Manessier uses broad colour blocks built up in layers across a flat ground. The artist worked in a post war abstract painting style, laying down shapes that shift as the eye moves over them. Thick paint sits beside thin passages, and the marks do not sit neatly inside one another.
The fine art print sits inside a frame with a back panel, so the colour blocks keep their depth and the printed surface stays flat. When you choose the ready to hang option, it arrives assembled and ready for the wall.
It fits above a plain door in a study room, where the light from a small lamp hits the paint layers and the shapes look deeper than they do from the doorway.
