Composition 7 — Fine Art

Composition 7 by Sonia Delaunay uses broad bands of colour laid over one another on a flat ground. The artist often worked in this abstract style, placing strong colour planes beside one another without shading. Some bands cross and some stop short, so the eye moves across the surface.

The fine art print sits on a chosen wall at a steady height, where the light hits it straight on. A light frame on a dark wall or a wood frame beside wooden furniture lets the frame finish follow the room. You see the flat colour areas without glare.

It works on a study wall seen from a desk chair, where the broad colour bands sit above a desk and the flat planes stay clear from that distance.
