Composition Marchand de Couleurs — Fine Art

Colorful patches and soft forms sit across the surface in Composition Marchand de Couleurs. The work follows the surrealist method of arranging unexpected elements so the eye rests on each one before moving on. You see colour held in place by the print process, with the edges kept clean and even.

This fine art print sits on a matte sheet, so the tones do not glare under a lamp. A light frame on a dark wall lets the bright patches stand out, while a dark frame on a pale wall gives the colours more room.

In a small study above a desk, the bright tones sit against the books and the quiet stack of notes below. From the doorway the colours read first, then the soft curves, then the clean edge of the sheet.
