Concord

Concord - 1982 by Gene Davis shows bands of colour stacked across the sheet in one direction. The bands step in width and end before the edge. A wide band near the middle carries the weight, and the rest stays open.

The picture reads as a colour field stripe painting, with hard edges between each band. It fits a fine art frame in white, wood, dark wood or black. The frame gives the picture a clear edge on the wall without pulling the eye away from the bands.

The white finish keeps the lighter bands easy to read. Put it on a hallway wall where you pass it twice a day. From the turn you see the big bands first, then the narrow steps between them.
