About this work
A slope of earth and stone rises beside a path at Cote du Galet, at Pontoise. The land is built from short patches of green, ochre and grey that press against each other. Paul Cézanne worked with this kind of blocky mark when he painted the hills around Pontoise.
This fine art print arrives ready to hang, with a metal hanger fitted to the back that goes straight onto a nail or screw. No separate frame to buy. The matte paper keeps the olive and stone tones from shining under a lamp, so the built up patches stay dull and even.
On a kitchen wall you see the broad patches first, and the path turns toward the right edge. Near the sink the short marks in the grass become visible. The scene stays quiet while you wait for the kettle.
