Crossfield I by Jack Tworkov (1968)
A grid of intersecting lines floats against a pale ground. Crossfield I is a study in restraint, where the absence of color speaks as loudly as the marks themselves.
The artwork reveals a network of vertical and horizontal strokes, some bold and deliberate, others faint as if hesitant. The off-white background carries the ghost of erased lines, hinting at the artist's process. Tworkov's hand is everywhere and nowhere, present in the texture yet absent in any single focal point.
This print holds its own in a study or office, where the quiet geometry can coexist with the order of books and papers.
