About this work
Dangerous Passage 1997 shows forms that lean and turn against each other. The shapes move across the sheet with a rough edge. Some parts stay pale and some turn darker, so the eye follows the shift from one side to the other. Louise Bourgeois often used lines and bodies in her work. You can see the same restless feeling here.
The fine art frame in black gives the image a firm outline. Against the pale ground, the black edge keeps the darker forms from fading into the wall. In wood, the frame settles beside the softer patches and lets the moving shapes carry the weight.
In a narrow hallway, you notice the turning shapes first, then the darker patches on the far side. The light from the side door picks up the rougher edges and leaves the pale centre quiet.
