About this work
Descending 1966 by Bridget Riley sets a slow sweep of short black lines against a pale ground. The lines step down from one side toward the other, each set a little lower than the last. The picture keeps the rhythm steady and the marks close together.
The fine art print uses a matte paper that lets the black lines stay sharp and the pale background stay flat. You can choose a frame finish that suits the wall, a light frame on a dark wall or a wood frame beside wooden furniture. The print sits on the wall with no glare under a lamp.
It works above a long dining table in a home in London. From the doorway you see the regular black lines sweep across the wall. Standing near the table you notice the small gaps between each line.
