The tulip and willow shapes sit side by side on a printed ground. Indigo discharge leaves lighter forms where the dye was lifted away. William Morris made these wood block patterns for woven cloth. The same motifs appear here as a fine art print on paper.

A light frame on a dark wall keeps the pale indigo shapes clear. A dark frame on a pale wall pulls the outlines forward. The matte paper holds the soft blue without shine under a lamp.

On a corridor wall at eye level the willow leaves read first from across the hall. Up close the small discharge marks show the block printing method. The tulip shape stays quiet in the corner.
