About this work
Drawing for Etching II 1916 shows a sheet with pencil lines and a few dark shapes set on a plain surface. The marks do not form a clear object.
You see the line work first, then the softer spots behind it. Wassily Kandinsky often worked this way when he planned an etching plate.
The paper takes the pencil lines without shine under the lamp. You can hang this fine art print above the desk in a study. From the doorway the lines read as a quiet pattern, and from the chair you notice the small marks one by one.
