About this work
The title Dry Cell 1963 points to a Robert Rauschenberg work from the post war period. The picture holds soft shifts of grey and cream with faint traces of earlier marks. A fine art print follows that quiet mix of tone and leftover traces.
The paper has a matte surface, so the light greys stay soft and there is no shine under a lamp. A light frame on a dark wall lets the pale ground stand out, while a wood frame beside wooden furniture keeps the room steady.
It fits on a hallway wall beside a coat hook. From the landing you see the broad grey field, and nearer you catch the faint pencil lines. The wall stays calm at night when the hall light is low.
