About this work
The title Elikan 1925 points to a work from the period when Kurt Schwitters built pictures from cut fragments of paper, newsprint and found edges. The surface reads as a small field of torn shapes and thin glued pieces, with parts of the support left bare.
This fine art print keeps the papery feel of the original method, so the rough cuts and overlaps stay clear on the sheet.
It works on a study wall above a desk, where the eye catches the torn edges first and the older paper tones second. From the doorway you see the broken patches spread over the sheet, and from the chair you pick out the smaller glued pieces one by one.
