About this work
First Time Painting 1961 by Robert Rauschenberg uses paint and paper on a flat ground. The surface holds loose strokes and thin patches of colour. Some areas are wiped or rubbed, so the ground shows through. The artist worked with mixed materials and everyday objects on the same plane.
You get the fine art print with a hanger already on the back. The print arrives ready to hang, with a metal hanger attached to the back that goes straight on a nail. No separate frame is needed.
It fits a hallway wall beside a door. From the landing you see the broad patches first, and the small rubbed marks when you pass by. The light in the hall catches the thin strokes and the bare parts of the ground.
