About this work
Flood, 1967- by Helen Frankenthaler shows thin colour washes spread across the surface. Broad areas of colour settle side by side with open spaces between them. The eye starts in the middle and drifts toward the edges. Soak stain painting leaves the colour flat and even.
The print sits on matte paper, so the tones stay soft without shine under a lamp. A light frame on a dark wall keeps the colour areas clear and separate. This fine art print keeps the wash marks even and the edges quiet.
Hang it on a blank wall above a low bench. From across the room the colour blocks read as one flat group. Step closer and the edges of each wash become more visible.
