Thick slabs of paint sit like geological strata. Horizons Ouverts is the name Riopelle gave this restless expanse.
Cobalt and ochre collide in short, angular strokes, while patches of white read as distant light or eroded rock. The palette feels both sunlit and subterranean. A single cadmium streak cuts diagonally, as if a horizon line refused to stay level.
Hang it where morning light glances off the surface—above a low credenza or between two tall windows.
