About this work
Concentric arcs and loose strokes gather over a pale ground in Impression III Concert 1911. The marks press fast and then ease off, so each band holds a different weight. Wassily Kandinsky worked in abstract painting and let sound guide the hand.
This fine art piece uses a clear frame edge that sets the picture apart on the wall. A white frame keeps the grey bands from sinking into the background.
On a hallway wall near the coat hooks, the arcs lead the eye upstairs before a coat blocks the view. The thin strokes stay readable at that distance.
