About this work
Improvisation XIV 1910 shows loose lines and small colour patches moving over a plain field. Wassily Kandinsky painted in this early abstract period, using quick marks that do not form objects. The sheet reads as a study of movement rather than a picture of something named.
The fine art frame comes in white, wood, dark wood or black. Each finish gives the sheet a clear edge on the wall, so the open field does not fade into the surface around it. The frame edge stays separate from the marks, which keeps the loose lines easy to read.
It works on a study room wall where you pass by during the day. From the doorway you notice the dark strokes first, then the small colour patches when you stop. The room stays quiet and the picture keeps its own space.
