Isles of Shoals Garden, Appledore — Fine Art

Isles of Shoals Garden, Appledore by Childe Hassam shows a garden on a rocky island off New England. Shrubs and flowers stand against the sea and sky. Quick painted strokes separate the leaves from the water. The view stays open and cool, with green and blue shapes set beside each other.

This fine art piece uses a frame in white, wood, dark wood or black. The frame gives the picture a clear edge on the wall. That edge keeps the garden shapes from fading into the background and holds the painted marks in place.

In a dining room, the garden colours hold their tone at the far end of the room. From the table you read the plant shapes as blocks of paint. The white frame edge marks where the image ends.
