About this work
Joseph and his Brothers - 1971 is a painted scene that places a few dark figures against a soft ground.
Clarence Holbrook Carter used a limited range of tones, with a deeper colour on one side and a lighter wash on the other. The fine art print keeps those tones in balance, so the darker area does not pull ahead.
A white frame gives the image a clean edge without pulling attention from the painted ground. It sits well above a desk in a study, where the plain top edge stays level with the books and the darker side reads clearly from the chair.
