About this work
Light Trap 1965 by Jesus Rafael Soto uses parallel lines that shift across the surface. The lines follow the known practice of the artist, with marks made to move when you change your view. The piece belongs to the op art movement and plays with how the eye reads repeated shapes.
The fine art print goes straight onto a nail. The white frame gives the print a clean edge against the busy lines. A wood frame would warm the cool marks, while a dark wood frame separates the drawing from the wall.
It works on a reading corner wall where you sit close to the bookcase. From that chair you notice the lines shift as you turn a page. On the mantel in the bedroom the same lines stay quiet with the room lighting.
