About this work
Magnifying Glass 1963 shows a single magnifying glass drawn with flat colour and sharp black outlines in a pop art style. The glass lens sits on a plain ground, and the handle runs along one edge. Roy Lichtenstein worked in this pop art period using graphic shapes and bold outlines.
The fine art print goes straight onto a nail. The white frame gives the picture a clear edge on the wall, and the frame edge sits against the flat colours without drawing attention away from the lens shape. The paper is matte, so the light areas stay soft under a lamp.
On a bedroom wall near the bed, the magnifying glass shape reads first from the doorway, and the black outlines stand out when you pass by.
