About this work
Mango Ice Cave Scale 1977 by Robert Rauschenberg places cool blue and pale yellow tones against a rough ground. The surface holds thin washes, a few sharper lines and a soft blot where a darker mark dried into the paper.
The picture feels built from layers rather than a single stroke. Robert Rauschenberg often combined paint with found texture, and the picture sits inside that practice of making a surface carry more than one kind of mark.
Your fine art print uses a matte finish, so the pale washes stay flat and the darker lines do not catch the light. On a wall near the top of the stairs, the cool tones read as a quiet passage, and the small marks stay clear from the landing below.
