The title Mediterranean, 1981- points to a wide open space. Broad colour runs across the sheet with room left empty, so the eye rests on the middle. Helen Frankenthaler worked with thin paint and poured washes that sit flat on the paper.

This fine art print arrives ready to hang. A metal hanger is fitted to the back, and it goes straight onto a nail or screw. The paper stays matte, so the colour does not shine under a lamp.

From across the room the broad wash holds the view. Up close the thin edges show where the brush met the ground. It works well on a quiet wall above a long shelf.
