About this work
Moulins en Hollandee - 1904 shows a row of windmills with sails turning above a flat waterway. The eye meets the hills first, then follows the masts toward the horizon. The water carries a thin band of blue green. Armand Guillaumin painted the sky with broad strokes in this French postimpressionist style.
This fine art piece comes with a white frame that gives the picture a clear edge on the wall. The soft frame edge keeps the pale sky from feeling cut off. You notice the open space between the mills more when the frame reads as a quiet border.
In a narrow dining room, the painting hangs on the wall opposite the table. From the doorway you see the white sails against the water band. The room stays calm while you set the plates down.
