New Galaxy 1970 by Alma Woodsey Thomas uses small dashes of paint in a loose rhythm. The marks move across the sheet in a pattern that reads like stars scattered over a dark field. The brushwork stays loose and the colours stay separate.

The fine art frame in white keeps the picture clear on the wall. The white edge sits clean against the dark tones and gives the image a steady border.

It works above a dining table against a pale wall. From the end of the table you see the broad pattern, and closer in you notice the small gaps between the dashes.
