About this work
Newspaper Glass and Pear 1917 shows a glass and a pear beside a newspaper on a table. Juan Gris built the objects from flat planes of colour that meet in clear lines. The composition follows his cubist still life practice, where everyday things sit in a tight arrangement.
This fine art print is ready to hang on arrival. The frame gives the picture a clear edge on the wall. A white, wood, dark wood or black finish sets the line against the picture. The edge holds the flat colour planes in place and keeps the surface from bleeding into the room.
On the study desk the glass and pear read as simple solid forms. Behind the desk the newspaper adds a small soft field. You notice the pencil lines first, then the flat colour shapes.
