Night Sky 2 Reversed 2002 — Fine Art

Night Sky 2 Reversed 2002 by Vija Celmins shows a dark field of tiny dots across the sheet. The dots scatter like stars, with a soft glow near the top. From across the room the dark field reads as a single shape. Up close the tiny marks become clear.

This fine art print uses a matte paper that keeps the darks soft and the greys quiet. A dark frame on a pale wall lets the night field hold the wall without pulling the eye away. The light from a lamp above does not create a shine on the surface.

It hangs on a bedroom wall above the bed. At night the room stays dim and the top glow stays soft. You notice the small dots first near the foot of the bed, then the dark field opens above.
