About this work
Not a Bad World Is It 1984 sets a single phrase across a broad ground. The words sit in a plain band, darker than the field around them. Edward Ruscha often uses lettering as the main subject.
Here the sentence reads flat and steady, with each letter holding its own space. The tone stays even across the text band. A fine art print keeps that even tone without a shine under a lamp.
The paper stays matte, so the letters do not catch glare on a dark shelf. You can hang it on a hall wall beside a coat hook. From the door you read the words first, then notice the quiet field around them.
