Ocean Park #45 — Fine Art

Ocean Park #45 by Richard Diebenkorn shows a painted field broken by a few rectangles and thin drawn lines. The layers sit on top of each other without blending. You can read the broad planes across the room and the graphite marks only when you stand near.

The frame finish can follow the room you choose, so a light frame sits on a dark wall and a dark frame sits on a pale wall. The fine art paper keeps the painted surface matte, so the light greys stay low and there is no shine under a lamp.

On a dining room wall the big blocks stay clear from the table. From the doorway you notice the drawn lines first, and only when you move closer do the soft painted bands show through.
