About this work
On the Wissahickon near Chestnut Hill places a creek along a wooded slope with trees and stone in the background. The scene follows the Hudson River School tradition of American landscape painting, where nature is set out calmly and read as a single view.
This fine art piece uses a matte paper that keeps the greens and browns flat without shine. A frame finish can follow the room, a light frame against a dark wall or a wood frame beside wood furniture. The surface stays even so the water and rocks hold their own tones.
On a bedroom wall at medium height, the creek line leads the eye along the paper. From the foot of the bed you read the tree shapes, and near the headboard the small strokes in the foliage come into view.
