About this work
Oysters and Wooden Armchair 1943 opens with a simple still life. Closed shells rest on a plain surface beside a wooden chair. Soft grey and brown tones sit near each other so neither one dominates. The scene stays calm because the objects do not compete.
You get the fine art print with a hanger already on the back. The print carries Henri Matisse working in a fauvist style with everyday food and furniture. A metal hanger sits on the back so the print goes straight onto a nail. You do not need a separate frame.
It works well above a low desk in a study. From across the room the shells and chair keep their shapes. Up close the small painted marks show through the matte surface. Natural light from a side window keeps the grey tones soft without glare.
