Painting — Fine Art

Painting by Sam Francis spreads open washes of colour over a white field. Thin paint leaves soft edges where one shade meets another. The blue and red tones sit against the white ground without heavy outlines. You see the colour spread in loose bands across the sheet.

The fine art paper holds the colour without shine, so the soft blues stay calm under indoor light. A light frame on a dark wall lets the white ground feel open and the colours read clearly.

In a hallway with a single lamp, the open colour washes stand out against the darker paint on the walls. From the landing you notice the red band first, then the blue wash beside it. The shape of the room gives the print room to breathe.
