About this work
Pastry Case I 1962 by Claes Oldenburg shows a row of sweet treats painted in bright colours and soft shapes. The eye enters at the top pastry and drifts down the stacked forms. The heavy outline holds each shape together against a plain ground.
This fine art print arrives ready to hang with a metal hanger fitted to the back that goes straight onto a nail or screw. The paper is matte, so the bright paint colours stay flat and the outlines do not glare under a lamp.
On a kitchen wall near the sink, the bright shapes read clearly from the doorway. From the breakfast table you notice the thick black outline around each pastry and the pale cream space around them.
