Phenomena Compass Bearing by Paul Jenkins

A molten river of ochre and slate-gray swirls across the canvas. Paul Jenkins called it Phenomena Compass Bearing. The surface feels wet, as if the pigments were poured moments ago. A thin black line cuts diagonally, anchoring the flow like a needle on a compass. Pools of cobalt and ivory collect at the edges, then bleed back into the ochre current. Hang it above a low credenza where the light shifts in the afternoon.
