Thin colour washes and pale marks run over the page in Phenomena Merlins Mantle - 1970. The artist used a pour and tilt method, so the paint moves in loose bands. The tones stay quiet against each other, with a darker band set beside a lighter one.

This fine art print is set in a frame with a back panel. The matte paper keeps the pale tones from shining under a lamp, and the frame holds the image flat on the wall.

On a study wall near a desk lamp, the pale bands read first, then the thin pencil marks show up close.
