About this work
Pine by the Mediterranean Sea 1916 sets a tall pine against a bright sea and sky. Theo van Rysselberghe uses neat coloured dots and short strokes to build the foliage and water. The tree stands dark on the left while the sea stretches wide and calm.
The fine art print goes straight onto a nail. The paint holds a pointillist method with separate marks that mix in view. Seen from a kitchen doorway the pine line reads first, then the dot work shows on the water as you step nearer.
No separate frame is needed. The matte paper keeps the green and blue tones even under a kitchen light. It suits a hallway wall above a coat rail, where the tree shape leads the eye down the passage.
