About this work
Pineapple and Anemones 1940 shows a pineapple beside a cluster of anemone flowers on a plain ground. The eye enters at the bright fruit, then rests near the darker petals. Empty space keeps the shapes quiet. Henri Matisse built flat colour areas with clear edges in his late work.
The fine art frame in white or black gives the image a hard edge on the wall. That clear border keeps the painted shapes from softening into the plaster. The frame finish stays separate from the picture, so the flowers read first and the wood or paint reads second.
Hang it above a kitchen counter where afternoon sun lands on the fruit tones. From the doorway the bright shapes sit high, and at hand the petal edges stay loose without any shine under the bulb.
