Prime Moments II

Prime Moments II shows bold geometric forms set against a flat ground. The shapes sit hard against one another, with sharp edges and large flat areas of colour. Al Held builds the picture from confident blocks rather than small marks.

The white frame gives the image a clean border on the wall. That frame edge keeps the shapes from running off the picture plane and sets a clear line around the paint. A matte fine art print keeps the flat colour areas even and stops any shine from pulling the eye away from the forms.

You see it best on a dining room wall where the overhead light falls straight on the flat colour. From the table you read the sharp outlines first, then the darker tones inside each shape.
