About this work
Redness of Blue 1996 shows a field of blue marks that run into a warm red band. The paint sits in layered strokes that seem to shift across the surface. Roberto Matta built the image with quick gestures and a few sharp lines.
The fine art print uses a matte paper that keeps the blue tones even under a ceiling light. A frame in a light finish can sit on a darker wall, or a wood frame can follow wooden furniture in the room.
It hangs on the wall beside a desk in a home office. At that height you notice the red band first, then the small blue crossings lower down.
