About this work
Rhizome - 1969 by Hiroyuki Tajima uses a grid of dark organic forms set against a muted ground. The eye moves along the repeating curves, and the empty space around them gives the picture room to breathe. His practice often works with abstract line and field in a minimalist way.
The print is made for a fine art frame, and the finish can follow the room: a light frame on a dark wall, a dark frame on a pale wall, or a wood frame beside wooden furniture. That lets the frame sit with what is already there instead of standing apart.
On a hallway wall near the stairs, the repeating curves stay readable from the landing. The darker forms hold the look when the light falls across the picture at an angle.
