About this work
Rochers a Belle Ile 1896 0 shows rock shapes along a shoreline in loose colour patches. Henri Matisse worked with thin paint and open paper, letting shapes sit against empty space. The marks stay broad and simple, with room around the forms.
This fine art print arrives ready to hang. A metal hanger is fitted to the back and goes straight onto a nail or screw. No separate frame is needed. The surface stays flat against the wall and suits the open layout of the picture.
It fits a narrow landing wall where the light changes through the day. From the top of the stairs the rock shapes read as soft colour blocks. Up close the edges show the paper grain and small paint marks.
