About this work
Room - 1956 shows a painted field with a few quiet shapes placed on it. The marks seem to test where colour ends and the bare sheet begins. Jiro Yoshihara worked in a plain painted field technique, and this fine art print follows that simple layout. The image stays calm and does not crowd the eye.
This fine art print sits on a matte sheet, so the painted areas read without shine under a ceiling light. A light frame pairs with a dark wall, or a wood frame sits beside wooden furniture. The surface stays even where the paint meets the ground.
It hangs on the stairwell wall near the landing, where the steps bring you closer as you pass. From that distance the broad field holds its shape, and the small painted marks show their edges.
