About this work
Scissors 1994 shows two blades crossed on the page, with the handles meeting near the centre. The mark is drawn in black ink on a pale ground. Louise Bourgeois used tools and domestic objects across her practice, turning a small implement into a drawn subject.
This fine art print is made on matte paper, so the black ink stays flat and does not shine under a lamp. The frame finish can follow the room you choose, a light frame on a dark wall or a wood frame beside wooden furniture.
It hangs on a kitchen wall near the sink, where the day light falls across the blades. You notice the crossing handles first, then the small ink strokes around the edges. From the table you see the shapes clear, while the room keeps its own busy tone.
