About this work
Screen I diptych - 1955 by Kenzo Okada shows two panels side by side with soft washes and thin drawn lines. The paint spreads over the paper in pale tones with quiet edges. The work uses the slow layering and simple forms that Kenzo Okada carried into his abstract paintings.
This fine art print sits on a plain wall at eye level where the pale tones stay even under soft light. A light frame on a dark wall keeps the two panels clear from the doorway, and a dark frame on a pale wall ties the set to wooden furniture nearby.
In a hallway the two panels fill the narrow space without crowding it. From the stair landing you see the two panels and the thin lines, and the pale paint stays soft against the darker plaster.
