About this work
Pierre-Auguste Renoir painted Seated Woman as a calm figure study, part of his usual work from the impressionist period.
You get the fine art print with a hanger already on the back. The picture shows a woman sitting, her hands resting, painted with separate short strokes and broken colour across her clothes and skin. The artist often returned to portraits of women seated in loose poses, and this image follows that habit.
A white frame gives the picture a clean edge, so the painted shapes sit plainly on the wall without a dark border cutting them off. You notice the edge first when you walk past the dining room, then the soft skin tones and the clothes take shape as you stand closer to the table.
