About this work
Sentry, 1976- by Helen Frankenthaler shows a field of thin wash over bare surface. A vertical band of stained color runs from the top edge toward the center, with open gaps between the paint patches.
You get the fine art print with a hanger already on the back. The eye moves along that band before settling on the quieter ground around it. The paper is matte, so the lighter tones stay soft and there is no shine under a lamp.
A metal hanger is fitted to the back, and the print goes straight onto a nail or screw without a separate frame. It works on a landing wall where the light is steady. From the bottom of the stairs you see the broad band first, and near the step you notice the open gaps between the paint.
