About this work
The painted shapes in Serpentine Saffron - 1969 follow a long curving line across the picture. Saffron tones and darker earth shapes sit on top of each other, with open areas separating them. The eye enters at the top and moves down along the curve. Richard Pousette-Dart worked in this style of abstract expressionist painting, laying paint on in repeated layers.
This fine art print arrives ready to hang, with a metal hanger fitted to the back that goes straight onto a nail or screw. No separate frame to buy. The matte paper keeps the saffron tones soft and stops glare from a lamp.
It fits well on a narrow stairwell wall between two turns. From the middle landing you see the curved line first, and the darker shapes step back toward the floor.
