About this work
Sesame, 1970- shows a broad band of colour laid over a thin ground, a shape that Helen Frankenthaler used across her soak stain paintings. The eye follows the soft edge where the paint thins into the bare surface. A second colour sits nearby, lighter and slower to dry.
The picture is a fine art print set in a frame with a back panel. The matte surface keeps the washed tones even and the frame gives the print a solid edge you can see from the side.
It works over the kitchen sink, where the light from the window hits the open field above the counter. You notice the slow edge of the colour band while you wash dishes, and the bare gap between shapes stays clear when you step back.
